Ezekiel Bread

Ezekiel Bread

(This recipe is for the bread machine)

Jeannie's Ezekiel Bread

Ezekiel Bread is a recipe that is inspired from the passage of Ezekiel 4:9-17 in the Bible. God was instructing Ezekiel in a manner of which he should prepare for his food preparation. He commanded Ezekiel to lay on his side for 390 days and bread and water were all Ezekiel was to be eating. As God gave Ezekiel the list of ingredients we can see that there are beans and lentils included. God knew that Ezekiel needed a source of protein for good health. Because God included such a good source of protein in this bread it is a bread good for eating during a time when one is fasting.

Some of you, like me, may not be able to completely fast due to health reasons, if this so, this breads for you! This recipe is an approximate and not of course a “sure thing” of exact ingredients Ezekiel used. It’s been adapted to my personal preferences as well as my use of using my bread machine, which obviously Ezekiel did not have. =)  Also, if you read the passage, so I can be Biblically correct, Ezekiel made a flat bread.

Hope you make, bake and enjoy this very healthy bread. I have found that even when I’m not fasting, but I do know it’s going to be a long while before I get to eat, this bread has sustained me, even kept me from having that “I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.” sort of feeling.

List of Ingredients

1 cup water, warm enough, according to your bread machine
1/4 cup red kidney beans, I use organic canned, drained
1/4 cup lentils, I use organic canned, drained
2 T. olive oil
2 T. honey, you can also use molasses
3/4 tsp. kosher salt
2 cup bread flour, I highly recommend King Arthur bread machine flour – it’s excellent!

Pick two of the following three flour types. Our personal favorites are the barley and millet:
1/2 cup barley flour
1/2 cup millet
1/2 cup spelt

3 tsps. vital gluten
1 pkg. yeast, I use Red Star Quick-Rise

Optional Ingredients:
You can add raisins, sunflower seeds, ground clove, cinnamon, etc.  Doing this makes for a great breakfast bread. Remember this will also change your nutritional outcome. This is something I’ve not tried yes, so I can’t say much about how it tastes. I’m sure people who’ve stayed on this bread for sometime just want a change now and again and so it is a good way to add a bit of variety, all the while keeping it healthy.

Put all ingredients into your bread machine in the order listed.

Bake in machine using the 2lb. setting.

Most definitely, above all else… ENJOY, and happy, happy bread baking,

Jeannie Bee

Bread Notes 🙂  kind of a like a foot note =) but better =)

You might be asking yourself, do I have to puree or smash the lentils abd beans, no, you don’t.  Why?  Because the kneading of the bread machine will do that.  As you can see from the photo above, there are no visible traces of those lentils and beans, so for your more persnickety eaters, they’ll never

I have also pre-measured the beans out into zip lock bags and then defrosted before using them in the recipe.  Make sure to adjust your water temp if you use them cold as well.
