~Supplemental Vitamins from the GOD-doctor~
Admit: we have all sinned!
It however doesn’t end there at the moment of admitting, does it? So often after we’ve been CHRISTians for a long period of time, we get so caught up in the workings of serving, we begin to sin in other sinful, yet less aware, ways. The worst part is, while we aren’t noticing these serving sins, the outside, unsaved world does. This is why it’s good each day for us to pull out GOD’s Word for ourselves to be examined by the GOD-doctor. For us to take some supplemental learning, One on one. We need more kindred spirits walking with the Spirit, then we need a world full of Kindle reading show and tellers. What’s going to impress and bless? Not the new gadget but the advice from the GOD-doctor.
Blessed: It’s not what you do, it’s who you are at the core. We are after all the apple of His Eye. The thing is with all these apples, there’s bound to be a few sour moments where we all need daily a sweet Word from GOD.
Let me just give you a reminder, all of us CHRISTians, walking about making it look like being a CHRISTian is a piece of cake. I’m going to not name names, but I’m going to say that there are a lot of people who make money off of people, and they are the people in their neighborhood. They write books, make money. They do conferences, make money. They teach, preach, and they make money. These same people will tell all the other people who don’t have much, to give their all. All the while selling, selling, selling. It’s made for quite a confusing and quite honestly, uncomprehending depiction of who we are in-Christ. After all, it was Jesus who turned all the tables over, because man was making some money in His House.
Now, looking with GOD-eyes, what does bless look like to GOD? Well, I’ll give you His answer, so that next time you think that the most popular guy or girl on the block is the latest and greatest speaker, best selling author, look at GOD’s Word. Especially this season of CHRISTmas. It was not some influential people that got picked to be the proud parents of Jesus. It was lineage and worth, and two individuals in whom GOD found favor. Maybe it’s because they were two people who never used Jesus as a means to their advancement. Maybe it was just because these two were in it all for the sake of being obedient to GOD.
1-2When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions. This is what he said:
3“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
4“You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.
5“You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.
6“You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.
7“You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for.
8“You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.
9“You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.
10“You’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom.
11-12“Not only that—count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens—give a cheer, even!—for though they don’t like it, I do! And all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company. My prophets and witnesses have always gotten into this kind of trouble.
What is even so awesome about this, is right after this passage in Matthew 5 is:
Salt and Light
13“Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.
14-16“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
Oh and GOD isn’t through with us yet. Do you need a warning label? He is now going to talk to us, yes us, CHRISTians. Not the unsaved who we are always spouting off about this sin of their homosexuality, or this sin of their abortion, or this sin of their adultery, or this politician and their sin, and this leader who did that, it’s all this way, and that way, and we don’t bother to allow GOD to penetrate the sickeningly sweet seeping sins that have infiltrated the Body of CHRIST.
For instance… I run into a lot of people who say belong to the body, well okay, they don’t say the Body, they say they are christian because they belong to a denomination. They talk a lot using the “F word or GOD —-, or GOD —- –” or other expletives as if they are the words “and, but or the”.
Commercial Interruption! GOD is known by many Names. Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty GOD, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. He is the Alpha and Omega and The Beginning and The End. What He is not has nothing to do with taking His name in vain. That must be some earthly sort of , man made, small god, these people know. For Believers know that the GOD we serve, the GOD of the Bible, He is Thee GOD and there shall be no other GOD’s before Him. If that’s the GOD you know, that’s good. If it’s the one who gets cursed, read the Bible and find out just who the One and Only GOD really is. We will now return to your blog reading.
Minutes later, after using GOD’s name, or whoever that god is that has such a last name, they will tell you of something GOD did, they will say how GOD brought this or that into their life for a reason to bless them, they’ll do the sign of the cross. Not a great example of showing honor to GOD, but one of putting some other god before Him. It’s quite truthfully much more accepted by society though. And why not? It’s so much easier to be a dabbler with one foot being the church lady or man, and one foot party to the world and it’s ways. It’s not how it can or should be, but it is so much of what is to be the world religion and the god that will be accepted today so easily. After all if you find a way that is narrow, as GOD says in Matthew 7, and it’s more real of a road, paved with GOD-things, GOD-ways, GOD-life, and you have this other road, that is paved with all the trimmings and trappings of money and popularity, get this and get that, name this and name that, who wants to be this or that? Let’s face it, it’s a road that is more popular, it’s also though, not the road mapped out for a Believer in Christ Jesus.
We live in a world where if we are in the Body and someone with money doesn’t like an action you take, they have more of a say so, and more pull in the matter. How sad is that. Right became about the who-haves, and not the right way to go. I’m just saying. These things are happening and shame, shame, shame on anyone who takes the easy road to keep what you cannot call gain in GOD’s Eyes. Shame, shame.
Sometimes it doesn’t have to be the exact god way, you use the name god, although, how can GOD, whose name, His name so profaned, be the same GOD, in the same sentence or lifetime being cursed? We’ve got a lot of repurposing to do within ourselves. Sometimes it’s the way you live that shows how you curse Him. Sometimes it’s just the action, or inaction by who you choose to stick by. Choosing to go the way of the who’ve wronged someone, to keep yourself going, that is also profane. If we are the people, who are going to be called by His Name, we need to be the people who know the scales of love and justice. His scales are about more than the money that meets the eye, or prestige or recognition. When you are able to finally come to that place in your walk in-Christ, you’ll know it. It’s not easy, breezy, yet there is a sense of knowing, of His peace, not the wishy-washy man piece of the pie. Man’s ways are just that, man getting his way. GOD’s ways are when like with Noah, Moses, Paul, and many others long before us, set out to show that it’s not who’s going with me, it is Who is with me. These were people called by His name, they were not super humans, they just followed the lead of Thee GOD who was to go before them, and before their witness.
Take a look as GOD also covers:
Completing GOD’s law, for all of you who want to do away with the reading of the Old Testament, as if it isn’t still vital for today. Do away with that, and you do away with the lineage and the road that leads to us understanding Jesus was GOD’s Son.
Murder: Nope, it’s not what she or he wrote. It’s something else in GOD’s Eyes. Murder doesn’t even involve a gun. Just an inaction, or action, or tongue.
Adultery and Divorce: I so realize I’m not allowed to discuss these taboo subjects. Strange enough though, we are able to give a lot of reasons why we can be, and ignore a lot of the reasons why GOD said we shouldn’t. But that’s just GOD, not us.
Empty Promises: Well yippy-skippy for those. GOD holds all our words, which means He also has all of the empty promises we’ve left behind as well. Honesty, if you are in court, or the court removes the hand on the Bible, no worries, because your yes’s, and my yes’s, and my no’s and your no’s are suppose to mean something because they come form a head knowledge of GOD and a heart where supposedly we say we are CHRISTians and Jesus lives within. Don’t get mad at me, I didn’t write the Bible, GOD inspired it for all. Not just the sinners, but the respectable sinning saints as well.
Love your enemies: I’ll be honest, we’ve been taught to fight off the enemy ever since we are young. Stranger danger, war, etc. It all comes with the might of fight. However, what we hold inside is something completely different. We have to come to that place of forgiveness with acceptance of having a line of not being abused. I say this because once again we live in a society where people bully, abuse, and use you as if you are disposable bottles, to be emptied and littered on the highway of life. We aren’t, we shouldn’t be, but it happens. The GOD-thing is to allow yourself to have the knowledge of someones abusiveness, or lack of being a human becoming of being a CHRISTian, and go His own way for your living. It is never-ever easy. It means that you just might be a people group of One and one. That’s okay. Mary and Joseph were One as GOD made them to be blessed with the favor of GOD. Noah–also One with one. Moses–also One with one. Lot’s of people not being understood by man, considered on the quirky side, yet look the honor and love GOD favored upon their lives. It wasn’t about being popular, it was always about obedience. There was one who tried to take the easy way, the one where it would be a road more favorably traveled by just him, his one own way, Jonah. But that’s a whale of a tale for yet another blog. =)
Matthew 5: continue reading, unless you are one of those people who can spend the whole day on Pinterest, Facebook, looking up all sorts of things to twitter, or tweet, or text, or what have you, but when it comes to getting GOD’s Word into you for every day, not a Wednesday or Sunday by the pastor, you just go ahead and dash away, dash away, dash away all. =)
Completing God’s Law
17-18“Don’t suppose for a minute that I have come to demolish the Scriptures— either God’s Law or the Prophets. I’m not here to demolish but to complete. I am going to put it all together, pull it all together in a vast panorama. God’s Law is more real and lasting than the stars in the sky and the ground at your feet. Long after stars burn out and earth wears out, God’s Law will be alive and working.
19-20“Trivialize even the smallest item in God’s Law and you will only have trivialized yourself. But take it seriously, show the way for others, and you will find honor in the kingdom. Unless you do far better than the Pharisees in the matters of right living, you won’t know the first thing about entering the kingdom.
21-22“You’re familiar with the command to the ancients, ‘Do not murder.’ I’m telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder. Carelessly call a brother ‘idiot!’ and you just might find yourself hauled into court. Thoughtlessly yell ‘stupid!’ at a sister and you are on the brink of hellfire. The simple moral fact is that words kill.
23-24“This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God.
25-26“Or say you’re out on the street and an old enemy accosts you. Don’t lose a minute. Make the first move; make things right with him. After all, if you leave the first move to him, knowing his track record, you’re likely to end up in court, maybe even jail. If that happens, you won’t get out without a stiff fine.
Adultery and Divorce
27-28“You know the next commandment pretty well, too: ‘Don’t go to bed with another spouse.’ But don’t think you’ve preserved your virtue simply by staying out of bed. Your heart can be corrupted by lust even quicker than your body. Those leering looks you think nobody notices—they also corrupt.
29-30“Let’s not pretend this is easier than it really is. If you want to live a morally pure life, here’s what you have to do: You have to blind your right eye the moment you catch it in a lustful leer. You have to choose to live one-eyed or else be dumped on a moral trash pile. And you have to chop off your right hand the moment you notice it raised threateningly. Better a bloody stump than your entire being discarded for good in the dump.
31-32“Remember the Scripture that says, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him do it legally, giving her divorce papers and her legal rights’? Too many of you are using that as a cover for selfishness and whim, pretending to be righteous just because you are ‘legal.’ Please, no more pretending. If you divorce your wife, you’re responsible for making her an adulteress (unless she has already made herself that by sexual promiscuity). And if you marry such a divorced adulteress, you’re automatically an adulterer yourself. You can’t use legal cover to mask a moral failure.
33-37“And don’t say anything you don’t mean. This counsel is embedded deep in our traditions. You only make things worse when you lay down a smoke screen of pious talk, saying, ‘I’ll pray for you,’ and never doing it, or saying, ‘God be with you,’ and not meaning it. You don’t make your words true by embellishing them with religious lace. In making your speech sound more religious, it becomes less true. Just say ‘yes’ and ‘no.’ When you manipulate words to get your own way, you go wrong.
Love Your Enemies
38-42“Here’s another old saying that deserves a second look: ‘Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.’ Is that going to get us anywhere? Here’s what I propose: ‘Don’t hit back at all.’ If someone strikes you, stand there and take it. If someone drags you into court and sues for the shirt off your back, giftwrap your best coat and make a present of it. And if someone takes unfair advantage of you, use the occasion to practice the servant life. No more tit-for-tat stuff. Live generously.
43-47“You’re familiar with the old written law, ‘Love your friend,’ and its unwritten companion, ‘Hate your enemy.’ I’m challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that.
48“In a word, what I’m saying is, Grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.”
We covered Admit, Blessed and now what the jimmy could connected have to do with anything. After all we know it as Admit, Believe, Confess, right? So true, but today we’re going to talk about staying connected because it’s the disconnect we are doing to people, as if they are just a donation at CHRISTmas, or a turkey at thanksgiving. We are all about the giving, I give, you gave, where the button, fill the box, right the checks, and all to the glory of us. It’s a list of who gave, who didn’t and who we deem as naughty or nice. Naughty and nice can even walk hand in hand and do the sign of the cross and be at the top of the list now. That’s how disconnected we’ve become from what is the Truth and what is the fictional story satan wants the world living in a world of small christ-ian compared to a life of being a sold out Bible believing, Christ-centered CHRISTian.
What the Father Does, the Son Does
19-20So Jesus explained himself at length. “I’m telling you this straight. The Son can’t independently do a thing, only what he sees the Father doing. What the Father does, the Son does. The Father loves the Son and includes him in everything he is doing.
20-23“But you haven’t seen the half of it yet, for in the same way that the Father raises the dead and creates life, so does the Son. The Son gives life to anyone he chooses. Neither he nor the Father shuts anyone out. The Father handed all authority to judge over to the Son so that the Son will be honored equally with the Father. Anyone who dishonors the Son, dishonors the Father, for it was the Father’s decision to put the Son in the place of honor.
24“It’s urgent that you listen carefully to this: Anyone here who believes what I am saying right now and aligns himself with the Father, who has in fact put me in charge, has at this very moment the real, lasting life and is no longer condemned to be an outsider. This person has taken a giant step from the world of the dead to the world of the living.
25-27“It’s urgent that you get this right: The time has arrived—I mean right now!—when dead men and women will hear the voice of the Son of God and, hearing, will come alive. Just as the Father has life in himself, he has conferred on the Son life in himself. And he has given him the authority, simply because he is the Son of Man, to decide and carry out matters of Judgment.
28-29“Don’t act so surprised at all this. The time is coming when everyone dead and buried will hear his voice. Those who have lived the right way will walk out into a resurrection Life; those who have lived the wrong way, into a resurrection Judgment.
30-33“I can’t do a solitary thing on my own: I listen, then I decide. You can trust my decision because I’m not out to get my own way but only to carry out orders. If I were simply speaking on my own account, it would be an empty, self-serving witness. But an independent witness confirms me, the most reliable Witness of all. Furthermore, you all saw and heard John, and he gave expert and reliable testimony about me, didn’t he?
34-38“But my purpose is not to get your vote, and not to appeal to mere human testimony. I’m speaking to you this way so that you will be saved. John was a torch, blazing and bright, and you were glad enough to dance for an hour or so in his bright light. But the witness that really confirms me far exceeds John’s witness. It’s the work the Father gave me to complete. These very tasks, as I go about completing them, confirm that the Father, in fact, sent me. The Father who sent me, confirmed me. And you missed it. You never heard his voice, you never saw his appearance. There is nothing left in your memory of his Message because you do not take his Messenger seriously.
39-40“You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you’ll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me! And here I am, standing right before you, and you aren’t willing to receive from me the life you say you want.
41-44“I’m not interested in crowd approval. And do you know why? Because I know you and your crowds. I know that love, especially God’s love, is not on your working agenda. I came with the authority of my Father, and you either dismiss me or avoid me. If another came, acting self-important, you would welcome him with open arms. How do you expect to get anywhere with God when you spend all your time jockeying for position with each other, ranking your rivals and ignoring God?
This has been quite a supplemental pill for all of us to swallow, but swallow them daily we must. It’s high time we stop believing in all the outside and inside needs for the body and ignore all the inside and outs of what is going on in the Body of Christ. It’s all GOD and it’s all good for all. After all it’s all for His glory.
The truth is, I am blessed to be breathing His breath in every day. It’s the only breath I need to stop and catch, take in and recover to handle all the daily goings on in my life. I’ve got so many people who aren’t talking to me because I’ve not done something they wanted me to do, or did something they didn’t want me to do. In the beginning and in the end, all that matters is that He is the air I breath, and I will say, Yes Lord, yes, to Your will and to Your way. If that doesn’t sound right to you, and you don’t want to hitch a ride on my Life boat, that’s just peachy-keen. I’m still the Apple of His Eye.
Until all have heard of and know His love,
