The bare necessities, something we need. We might not be able to always just immediately forget about everything and be happy, but we sure do need the bare necessities to get by in life. When we have those, when we’ve got that, we can live the simple life that was planned out before us.
This Jeannie Bee ended yesterday with a recipe buzzing in my ear. Awoke this morning with a Word from GOD buzzing in my ear, which led to this song singing in my ear.
~The Bare Necessities~
Don’t know about you, but this picture oozes, bare necessity to me. It looks so unbelievably scrumptious. This is it, this is what we’re talking about! If ever there was a real deal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownie to behold, this is it. If you are like me, this is something I want in my hurricane kit. This is one of those things I’d prepare as comfort food to weather the storm.
Morning came early for me today, well I usually get up between 5 and 6 AM. each day, but this morning I awoke to the Lord placing something on my heart even earlier, just after 4 AM. It was all about this blog and telling me that I needed to start being even more open regarding the struggles that I’ve been facing over the years of my life, and just who my Overcomer is.
1 John 5
The Message (MSG)
1 John 5
1-3Every person who believes that Jesus is, in fact, the Messiah, is God-begotten. If we love the One who conceives the child, we’ll surely love the child who was conceived. The reality test on whether or not we love God’s children is this: Do we love God? Do we keep his commands? The proof that we love God comes when we keep his commandments and they are not at all troublesome.
The Power That Brings the World to Its Knees
4-5Every God-begotten person conquers the world’s ways. The conquering power that brings the world to its knees is our faith. The person who wins out over the world’s ways is simply the one who believes Jesus is the Son of God. 6-8Jesus—the Divine Christ! He experienced a life-giving birth and a death-killing death. Not only birth from the womb, but baptismal birth of his ministry and sacrificial death. And all the while the Spirit is confirming the truth, the reality of God’s presence at Jesus’ baptism and crucifixion, bringing those occasions alive for us. A triple testimony: the Spirit, the Baptism, the Crucifixion. And the three in perfect agreement.
9-10If we take human testimony at face value, how much more should we be reassured when God gives testimony as he does here, testifying concerning his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God inwardly confirms God’s testimony. Whoever refuses to believe in effect calls God a liar, refusing to believe God’s own testimony regarding his Son.
11-12This is the testimony in essence: God gave us eternal life; the life is in his Son. So, whoever has the Son, has life; whoever rejects the Son, rejects life.
The Reality, Not the Illusion
13-15My purpose in writing is simply this: that you who believe in God’s Son will know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have eternal life, the reality and not the illusion. And how bold and free we then become in his presence, freely asking according to his will, sure that he’s listening. And if we’re confident that he’s listening, we know that what we’ve asked for is as good as ours. 16-17For instance, if we see a Christian believer sinning (clearly I’m not talking about those who make a practice of sin in a way that is “fatal,” leading to eternal death), we ask for God’s help and he gladly gives it, gives life to the sinner whose sin is not fatal. There is such a thing as a fatal sin, and I’m not urging you to pray about that. Everything we do wrong is sin, but not all sin is fatal.
18-21We know that none of the God-begotten makes a practice of sin—fatal sin. The God-begotten are also the God-protected. The Evil One can’t lay a hand on them. We know that we are held firm by God; it’s only the people of the world who continue in the grip of the Evil One. And we know that the Son of God came so we could recognize and understand the truth of God—what a gift!—and we are living in the Truth itself, in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. This Jesus is both True God and Real Life. Dear children, be on guard against all clever facsimiles.
~The me, behind my GOD~
You see for the most part, depending on what side of me you see, you will make a decision about me, really anyone, and when you got to describe them, you’ll say whatever impression they’ve left upon you, maybe not really describing them. I think that’s what we all do. We’d like to say it’s different, even in the CHRISTian realm of living, but it’s not. We tend to either paint this amazing picture because we are all for the person, or we paint a tainted picture because we are not in favor, because they left a bad flavor in our mouth. Ever meet people like that? I could be one.
If you’ve ever met me during a down time, you might feel I have a passion and absolutely love that I’m a survivor. You could also walk away thinking that I have a chip on my shoulder that I borrowed from Boulder, Colorado, and they’d like it back, PLEASE!!!
We all respond in different ways, during different circumstances in life, to people differently. I’m sorry, you think you are immune, and you have some perfect consistency of always behaving to perfection and exact. Get real! The real deal is always best to own up to. There are Players out there in the world and what they bring forth out of people is all about the game. They find that sometimes getting the “best” of something, well, let’s just suffice to say, that their idea of “best of you and I”, has nothing to do with the what is best for us, or our mental being. Don’t get me wrong, some of these people who play these games with peoples lives, love to look good in society, and if they break people down, don’t they tend to look all the more powerful and good, because they are like the Munchhausen syndrome people. They break down, to be able to look like the hero’s who pick up the pitiful little people and get them back on track. I say, rubbish to that.
It’s time we start owning up people. It’s time we stop being fickle, people playing people and become bold in our own right. We who have endured the “games people play” are survivors, but even more so, we need to give credit to the true people in our life who weren’t playing games, who stuck it out, who didn’t belittle, who understood the woes, who knew we had purpose, who didn’t wait to tell us we needed this or that to make it, or didn’t give us enough ammunition to destroy ourselves, but these people, these, necessities of the soul, truly sent by the Lord people, are the people who allow the Holy Spirit to come in and flow forth the ability to come alongside another individual and what they do, we do, has nothing to do with playing a game.
Over the fifty-three years, to date here, I’ve lived I’ve watched a lot of people destroy people. Some of them do it because they are protective to what they consider to be sacred. They might even be well-meaning, but mostly it’s all inner-meaning, we’ve got something to protect here, and what happens is, it becomes the “thing” they are protecting, and out goes the real meaning behind what started out being people focused in the beginning. When this happens, the thing built up often becomes the idol.
There is CHRISTian conduct, becoming of a Christ-centered, Bible believing behavior we are to have. We have to stop thinking we can just walk on by, destroying lives, and telling GOD we are sorry, asking for Jesus to forgive, magically it happens and we move on. We are asking for trouble when we allow this behavior in, and leave a massive grave of dead bodies in the wake of what could of been people in the Kingdom.
I am all for asking GOD to forgive us for our past. Asking Him to forgive us for what we’ve done. However, we have to be careful. We do need to make restitution as much as is possible. The first time I heard this was when I was dealing with being abused when I was younger. I remember everyone saying you have to face the person who did this to you. I’d already begun to deal with it, at a late age, finally owning up that it happened. What I wasn’t dealing with back then though, was creeping in, and that was the fact that it was done. I’d tried to sweep it under the skin of my life, not knowing that all the years of pretending nothing happened, nobody would believe it, least of all me, who had been told over, and over, and over, “This will make you a better wife Jeannie.” I believed it, and almost became the worst wife because I suppressed all that, believing I was bad, guilty and ashamed of where I’d come from.
I have since dealt with all those issues, and I’m ever grateful for the saving grace of GOD, and His Son, who does indeed heal. He heals hearts to the fullest extent. He makes something wonderful, someone wonderful, from something tainted by sin. He makes you and I, if we allow it, whole again. Maybe even better! At least that’s how I feel after going through all the traumas of life. I find that I can be more relational, and less of a fake CHRISTian to people. You and I who have been saved, healed, we need to be more wholesome to the world out there. They don’t need you showing off you are some big Sunday and Wednesday church attending, pew sitting, Sunday school teaching, deacon serving, pastor preaching, Bible trained individual. They’ve had doses of that on T.V. and in fact in their businesses.
Try this wholesome wear on for change… I dare you, in fact: I double dare you!! I double dare you!! I used a little poetic license to make my point. Any-who, I dare you to go for a week not telling anyone you meet that you go to this church, this Bible study, you do this, you do that, you go here, you go there. I dare you in this season of thanks, and celebrating Jesus’ birth, you just act and do like Jesus would. What, it’s been done before, the whole “What Would Jesus Do?” mentality. Really? Well who stopped it, and how come it didn’t work? We felt we needed to come up with something better and get people connected by giving them purpose, when we ourselves decided we just needed the next catch phrase motivation, the next dynamic thing to do, in order to go out and make disciples, when Jesus has the whole deal for us already packaged up in the 66-x-rays of what we are to read, do and bring forth by living it out. EXACTLY!!! You what? can’t do that? Can’t be perfect 100% of the time. Stop acting like you are then!!! Because sometimes you and I act as if we have this whole thing figured out.
What did Jesus do? He knew what He was here for, but that never ever stopped Him from going to the Father for help. For assistance, for a shout out. So how about you? Do you continue to look for the next thing someone is going to spoon feed you, or, do you make a conscientious decision to stop, drop, and ask GOD, “Your will not mine be done.” I just this morning heard a pastor share that his dad, got mad, and put men around his sickbed to guard him, against anyone who dared to come near him to pray, “GOD, may Your will be done.” REALLY? How terrible is that? No, not the people who come to pray that, but the pastor who would not allow someone to pray that. We’ve not come so far baby! We’ve regressed to the point that if you don’t believe the feel good, joy all the time in the journey, and you eat this, or do that, you aren’t healed stuff, that we’ve become sick ourselves. Sick with some theory that we continue to latch onto a man or a woman spouting whatever it is we WANT to hear, not what we need to hear.
So today, look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities that come from GOD Himself. The simple Word of GOD. The whole Word of GOD, not in part. Because if we don’t start showing that’s what the real deal is in our life, we aren’t going to make disciples, we are only offering up the imitation of what we want, and not His will be done.
A whole lot of people get angry with GOD because He didn’t deliver, when in fact, He did deliver. He delivered His SON, and it was His Son, Jesus, who said, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”
My youthful life was full of strife. Full of loss of life, including my innocence at a very young age. Innocence stolen from me, but in the end, my GOD, and because of His will to be done, it was brought back in the fullest manner it ever possibly could be. Because of Jesus, and His desire, and His will to carry out the plans set before Him, the road all the way to the Cross, to the Tomb, and to Heaven, I am free! I am free to be who He desires me to be. If that is a bad thing, His will, His way, and that isn’t something appealing to you, then maybe, just maybe you have never met the truest Healing power of being saved. I dare you, show that in every day life, and you will run into people, like I do, who will ask, “What makes you so happy?” They might not even like the happy you have, but that’s just because they have a whole lot of unhappy seeped inside of them. They are the ones who need to see you whole again, and yet broken at time, because the One who continues to bring out the joy in you, is the One who in that verse, “Thy will be done.”, is getting the job and joy done in each and every situation in your life. So go ahead, cry with a few people you encounter and don’t be so quick to offer up a quick fix. Let Jesus do that. Our job is to just be His hands and feet. You might just the be the link in the chain that allows that person to get connected to the One who will save them.
7-13 “The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:
Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what’s best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You’re in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You’re ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Let GOD bring you what He has prepared for you, and live out life knowing His bare necessity for living, is that you know His Son. It’s something true, Jesus alone is our bare necessity. And in this, just this, “we can rest at ease.”
Until all have heard of His Love,
P.S. Oh, yes, the reason for that amazing looking scrumptious dessert you see up there.
The reason behind the picture and the recipe: It’s food to go with the thoughts above, but more so, it was part of the inspiration that began last evening after encountering the recipe idea, and then GOD waking me up to be just a little more transparent.
Truthfully I know that picture was probably something of a tease. Which is exactly what we can be if we don’t offer up the real thing, real quick to people. They don’t need imitation anything any more, they need us in the Body of Christ to be the real deal, genuine, loving, truthful, not so perfected people we are. We can dress ourselves up all we want but if we don’t bring the real thing, we leave people with a false sense of what this life is about. It’s about living, dying to self, and the offer on the table from GOD to live Eternally in Heaven. I get jokes about this at work all the time, and I just let it go, because I hope that some day, when they desire, they’ll want to hear. All I can do is keep it real, be a listener and love. In the meantime I can bring this dish. Why this? Because it’s not real deal chocolate chip cookie dough. It’s egg-less. It’s missing that one ingredient that makes a true to life Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, but it does the trick. These brownies will, but us, without the Jesus inside for Truth, without the Word washing over and out of us, never will do. I love how GOD’s will is all about us living out our lives safely with Him, according to His will, is a must. And just like that, this recipe wouldn’t be possible without the same safe guidelines it has. I love how there is food for us from GOD which is a must, and food for living on earth which is satisfying and even sweet goodness for us as well.
Ta-da! A post with food for thought and food!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies
Yield: 32 brownies
Prep Time: 30 min + cooling time
Cook Time: 25 min
1 Box Duncan Hines Family Size Brownie Mix — Yes, it needs to be Duncan Hines. Why? You’ll have to go read one of my other blogs to find the story behind that statement.
COOKIE DOUGH (EGG FREE!):
3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup granulated white sugar
3 Tablespoons milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips
1/2 cup semisweet chips + 1 teaspoon shortening for drizzle, optional
1. Prepare the brownies according to package direction. It is very important the brownies are allowed to cool completely before the next step.
2. Prepare the cookie dough: In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer to combine butter, brown sugar and white sugar. Mix in milk and vanilla. Mix in flour just until combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
3. Spread cookie dough over the cooled brownies. Refrigerate until the dough is quite firm. It’s okay to speed up the process and place it in the freezer too. The firmer the dough, the easier it will be to cut into neat squares. Use a sharp knife to cut the brownies. You may need to wipe the knife off with a paper towel in between cuts since the fudgy brownies and cookie dough will tend to stick to the knife a bit. These brownies are best to serve placed inside cupcake papers and served with a fork.
4. If you’d like to add chocolate drizzle on top, melt 1/2 cup chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon of shortening in the microwave; stir until smooth. Scoop the melted chocolate into a zip baggie and snip off the corner. Squeeze the bag to drizzle the chocolate on top of each brownie. Sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top, if desired.
