Who Are The Real Hero’s Behind 9-11

Sometimes the truth hurts, but always truth is best.

Before you read on and think I’m being a bit tough on 9-11 remembrances, I’m not.  I think it’s good to remember, and I especially think it’s good to remember it in a truthful, honoring, GOD pleasing manner.  As of late I’ve been watching a few very honoring and noble things regarding 9-11, and a few things that stretch the truth of what a hero truly is.

What inspired me to share this is something I saw yesterday regarding a woman who was talking about her son who she believed was a hero.  Now I don’t know exactly what happened to her son, but what she shared that he shared just emphasized how much we’ve been watering down the Word of GOD and how little people who believe in GOD, or even believe in Jesus, know of the Word of GOD.  You can know Jesus, and not know His Word, but you better be able to know what you are saying about what Jesus said, and did, and what GOD’s Word says before believing in, or desiring to believe truth from man-made fictional living.

Here is a bit of what happened and what I heard.  It doesn’t matter who said this, or what faith they are, but the fact that this is not Biblical Truth, is what does matter.  The fact that just because it leaves someone all warm and fuzzy and filled with hope and honoring someone, doesn’t make it truthful.  So don’t go trying to guess who, what, when, and where, just know the “why” of it being wrong.

WARNING:  The woman is mom, and the man is the son.  The story is an every day story of how we’ve watered down the truth so that we can believe what we want because it sounds so much better in our little tingling-good feeling ears.  It might feel good, but it won’t get us into Heaven, and it won’t change what the Truth of GOD’s Word really says.

Mom shared that her son was a true hero because as he lay dying he told those around him that he didn’t want GOD to allow him to go to Heaven right when he died.  The mom said she told the son that he for sure was going to Heaven right away because he lived such a good life.  He was all about doing right.  (Are you already seeing 1 Biblical wrong?)

The mom in the discussion with the interviewer continues to talk up her son.  The interviewer is very impressed and talks about how her son truly was a saint in this life, helping all sorts of people.  They further get into a discussion because now both are in agreement that GOD surely must have granted the sons request to not go to Heaven.

You are wondering like me why would this son not want to go to Heaven if He believed in God, believed in Jesus, why, oh why, would he ever ask God such a thing.  Hold on to your Bibles, you are going to need them; everyone should.  And it shouldn’t be some denominational suited to a faith Bible either.  So, I wait, just like you now, and what to my wondering ears do I hear?  The interviewer shares how her son is a true hero, saint and witness for loving people because he wants to be sent to purgatory.  The son feels GOD can best continue to use him there to share and tell a few more people about God and afford them the opportunity to go to Heaven too.  Are you shocked?  I hope so, because this is not Biblical in any sense of the Word of GOD.  Which in turn as the day unfolded and 9-11 whoop-lah was unfolding amongst the truths of what happened on 9-11 it all began to sink in to me that we in the Body of Christ aren’t doing enough to instill the Word of GOD.  We might have people believing in God, Father, Son and Spirit, but we sure don’t have them understanding the Truth.  It’s the same for 9-11.  We have to peel away at the layers, so that we can get to the source of the GOD behind it all.

True Freedom, the truest of freedom, didn’t come cheap either.
Talk is cheap, but the giving of ones life comes at quite a price tag.  So does giving up what one believes in.  Unless of course what you believed in was just a preference and not a conviction.  There-in lies the biggest problem growing in the Body of Christ these days.  We talk a lot about this church and that CHRISTian organization growing, growing, growing, and yet inside there is very little personal growth, which is what led me to dig into God’s Word today and take a look at some of our real hero’s in life.

Jeremiah 9:22-24

The Message (MSG)

 22Speak up! “God’s Message:

“‘Dead bodies everywhere, scattered at random
like sheep and goat dung in the fields,
Like wheat cut down by reapers
and left to rot where it falls.'”

23-24God’s Message:

“Don’t let the wise brag of their wisdom.
Don’t let heroes brag of their exploits.
Don’t let the rich brag of their riches.
If you brag, brag of this and this only:
That you understand and know me.
I’m God, and I act in loyal love.
I do what’s right and set things right and fair,
and delight in those who do the same things.
These are my trademarks.”
God’s Decree.

Talk the talk of the people, or take a stand with God.

All the talk of 9-11 and it’s hero’s, and the television stations wanting to be first in airing of some great tenth anniversary story come into play, we are all pretty much thinking of 9-11.  Many want to be the first with some great catch phrases.  Need an example?  Let me tell you of one commercial that continues to air:  The O Network: “Twins of the Twin Towers”.  I’m not saying there isn’t a story to tell, I’m saying it’s the use of the story for continued glory, but the glory doesn’t really in the end, end up where it should.

Of course, lest we not forget we need to be so worldly rounded, the O Network, which lets just call that “O” Oprah, still being in the front seat, even more so now, and her desire to look as if she’s so laid back, but truly just in more of a influential power seat as ever, to bring back O’Donnell too.

Just like all those people saying how sad it was Oprah was going off the air. Really? Since when, she’s never been more on, then since going off. This is what I’m talking about. We the people allow ourselves to be duped into, buying into whatever someone else says without examining the Truth!

Okay, so I shared a bit of how I personally feel, but it’s a prime example of how watered down we’ve gotten.  We believe she left, knowing all the while she wasn’t leaving at all?  Who believed, who cried over that.  Who could possibly not see the writing of the social advertising on the wall of that “O” moment?  It’s a perfect example of knowing the truth but ignoring it for the sake of drama and attention.

This whole 9-11 Hero thing only saddens me in the sense that our consideration of what is Truth, and what we perceive as truth only lasted for a short time. How does that saying go from the Days of Our Lives: “Like sands through the hour glass, so are the days of our lives.” Seems like we’ve let an opportunity for change slip right through to be dust in the wind.

We the people, changed for about two weeks or so. People were more polite, caring, attentive to the needs of others first and foremost, instead of involved in their own “me-me-me” world.  Now for another day, the day we are remembering “ten years”, we are going to do what?  We are going to show we’ve changed for a day, or are we willing to just plan change our ways so that these lives, those we believe to be hero’s, aren’t in vain.  And for the Believer, how about that pivotal deep rooted belief we believe.  You know, the one where Jesus laid down His life so that we could be free.  Really?  How much of that Biblical freedom have you used for self-gain, and how much of it have you used to lead someone to the Lord?

The other sad thing is instead learning and leaning on what made this country great, we went right back into a world focused on getting what we want, at the expense of not wanting to offend anyone, which is what got us into this mess in the first place.

We’ve become a sad society of people who seemingly gain a lot of knowledge via taking ethics, morals, and religious classes, just to find they end up on the side of believing everyone must be right, instead of believing and living out the truth, that there is only one absolute Truth.

Sad to me as well is that if we continue to live this way in this country, in the world, believing everyone is right and there is no absolute Truth to believe in, or live out loud, these people, these hero’s of our day, did indeed die in vain.

Psalm 89:18-20

The Message (MSG)

5-18 God! Let the cosmos praise your wonderful ways,
the choir of holy angels sing anthems to your faithful ways!
Search high and low, scan skies and land,
you’ll find nothing and no one quite like God.
The holy angels are in awe before him;
he looms immense and august over everyone around him.
God-of-the-Angel-Armies, who is like you,
powerful and faithful from every angle?
You put the arrogant ocean in its place
and calm its waves when they turn unruly.
You gave that old hag Egypt the back of your hand,
you brushed off your enemies with a flick of your wrist.
You own the cosmos—you made everything in it,
everything from atom to archangel.
You positioned the North and South Poles;
the mountains Tabor and Hermon sing duets to you.
With your well-muscled arm and your grip of steel—
nobody trifles with you!
The Right and Justice are the roots of your rule;
Love and Truth are its fruits.
Blessed are the people who know the passwords of praise,
who shout on parade in the bright presence of God.
Delighted, they dance all day long; they know
who you are, what you do—they can’t keep it quiet!
Your vibrant beauty has gotten inside us—
you’ve been so good to us! We’re walking on air!
All we are and have we owe to God,
Holy God of Israel, our King!

19-37 A long time ago you spoke in a vision,
you spoke to your faithful beloved:
“I’ve crowned a hero,
I chose the best I could find;
I found David, my servant,
poured holy oil on his head,
And I’ll keep my hand steadily on him,
yes, I’ll stick with him through thick and thin.
No enemy will get the best of him,
no scoundrel will do him in.
I’ll weed out all who oppose him,
I’ll clean out all who hate him.
I’m with him for good and I’ll love him forever;
I’ve set him on high—he’s riding high!
I’ve put Ocean in his one hand, River in the other;
he’ll call out, ‘Oh, my Father—my God, my Rock of Salvation!’
Yes, I’m setting him apart as the First of the royal line,
High King over all of earth’s kings.
I’ll preserve him eternally in my love,
I’ll faithfully do all I so solemnly promised.
I’ll guarantee his family tree
and underwrite his rule.
If his children refuse to do what I tell them,
if they refuse to walk in the way I show them,
If they spit on the directions I give them
and tear up the rules I post for them—
I’ll rub their faces in the dirt of their rebellion
and make them face the music.
But I’ll never throw them out,
never abandon or disown them.
Do you think I’d withdraw my holy promise?
or take back words I’d already spoken?
I’ve given my word, my whole and holy word;
do you think I would lie to David?
His family tree is here for good,
his sovereignty as sure as the sun,
Dependable as the phases of the moon,
inescapable as weather.”

Looking to be free indeed?  Try living for the very thing that Christ died for, and believe it or not, it was you, it was your neighbor, and in fact, it also was your enemy.

It’s time for us all to get ready.  We don’t need another hero, we just need people to start living their lives as if there is more to live for then your next drink, your next party, your next crutch, or even another hero to cling to.  You be the hero and give someone something other then a warm fuzzy feeling today, that lasts only for the moment.

These men and women from all aspects of 9-11, including their survivors who have daily reminders to live with, died for, and live for something worth so much more deserving then a remembrance.  Remembering isn’t a problem, learning to know that there is so much more to these glory stories, what truly it is all about, this thing called living and life, that’s the hero story each and every one of them have.

What?  You only believe fine print is for contracts or labels.  You think it only matters where you sign on the dotted line, or what you put into your body?  Really?  Really?!?!?

Romans 7

Torn Between One Way and Another

1-3You shouldn’t have any trouble understanding this, friends, for you know all the ins and outs of the law—how it works and how its power touches only the living. For instance, a wife is legally tied to her husband while he lives, but if he dies, she’s free. If she lives with another man while her husband is living, she’s obviously an adulteress. But if he dies, she is quite free to marry another man in good conscience, with no one’s disapproval. 4-6So, my friends, this is something like what has taken place with you. When Christ died he took that entire rule-dominated way of life down with him and left it in the tomb, leaving you free to “marry” a resurrection life and bear “offspring” of faith for God. For as long as we lived that old way of life, doing whatever we felt we could get away with, sin was calling most of the shots as the old law code hemmed us in. And this made us all the more rebellious. In the end, all we had to show for it was miscarriages and stillbirths. But now that we’re no longer shackled to that domineering mate of sin, and out from under all those oppressive regulations and fine print, we’re free to live a new life in the freedom of God.

Many hero’s behind the scenes:

Will you be one of them?  Will you recognize a real hero, in everyday living wear when you see one?  I’d like to think we can see who the real hero’s are in our every day life.  So often they are just every day people who come in and out of our life giving us a glimpse of what a shinning star really looks like.  They won’t get their names on any list of who’s who.  They won’t be sitting at the platinum table at the party and they won’t probably even be recognized for what they said, what they did until that day when they die, and the people who knew them start talking about what a difference they made in their life.

Each and every day men and women will cross our paths and be every day hero’s.  They aren’t in it for any pin, star, or place of fame.  They need no recognition the men and women of faith wall of life either.  They are ordinary people showing that living an extraordinary life is all about the One who shines behind their faith.  Today choose to show the world around you Who your real hero is.  If the people choose to pat you on the back not yet able to recognize Him in a personal way, no worries!  It’s just up to you to bring Him, and all up to Him to work in their life, just like you are showing that He’s still working on you.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-14

The Message (MSG)

The Way He Wants You to Live

12-13And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love! 13-15Get along among yourselves, each of you doing your part. Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on. Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet. Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs. And be careful that when you get on each other’s nerves you don’t snap at each other. Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.

Honor the every day hero’s in your every day life.  Most of all, if you want to honor Jesus, who did give His life for all, do it by digging into His Word.  If you want people to recognize the Jesus who resides as the hero of your life, don’t just spout out some wishy-washy words, some feel good events, bring the Love of a hero who stretched out His arms far and wide so that none, that’s none, not even our enemies, would perish.

Matthew 7: 13-14“Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention.Until all have heard of His love,

Jeannie Bee
